The bobolinks have returned to the farm again this year. They seem to have settled on their nesting sites now. I often see them hovering around the same pastures each day. We'll take note of their locations and plan our haymaking schedule to make sure that the young ones have had time to fledge before we go in with the tractor to cut hay.
I've been enjoying their song as I move fence for the cattle and sheep or give the chickens more feed and water. It's hard to imagine better working conditions on a beautiful morning in a lush, green pasture with the sound of bobolinks in the background. I like to think our animals enjoy it too.
