What's a farmer to do if the medicine chest contains no penicillin, no modern pharmaceuticals, no antibiotics? What if her ewe develops a sniffle, her lambs' ears begin to droop or her piggie goes off its feed?
She grows a bed of garlic in her well-composted garden, harvests it the following summer, and waits for a rainy day to peel, chop and steep until she has her own natural treatment to add to her medicine chest.
